Thin wall steel tubes and the effects of plating on its properties 

Industrial sections are the most widely used raw materials for making products, that is why manufacturers try to solve these steel sections' problems. Plating is one of the most effective ways that are practical to

make a thin wall or carbon steel pipe and tube more beautiful and stainless. Manufacturers use different kinds of methods and metals for plating

: Techniques of plating

         ElectroplatingElectroplating is done through electrochemical processes. By placing the objects in a solution that is containing ions of the desired metal to be plated, we can start the plating process. In the second step, we need to apply the negative charge to the object so the positive ions in the solution attract to it and create a thin coat of metal on the surface of steel sections

: Kinds of metals that are used for plating

 Zinc: zinc plating is also known as galvanization. There are two methods for galvanization: hot-dip galvanization and electro galvanizing. In the first method the manufacturer dips the part in a vat of molten zinc then removes it from the bath and allows it to dry. We use a zinc electrolyte bath and two electrodes (steel part as cathode and an anode) in the second method. By the influence of electricity, the dissolved zinc deposit on the surface of steel pipe or any other steel products from the cathode. Zinc plating is useful for Thin-walled pipes or cold-rolled steel because it can make its properties better and make it stainless by a cheap process

 copper: to plate the steel pipe and tube with copper we need a solution with maximum saturation of copper sulfate. In this method, the steel part attracts copper ions as an anode, and a thin layer of copper is applied on the surface of steel pipes. Copper plating is used to make thin-walled pipes stainless and as the infrastructure of some other kinds of plating

 nickel-chrome: It is the most common plating technique that creates multiple layers of coating. The nickel layer of coating is produced a good corrosion resistance while chromium is for the decorative part. the first layer in nickel-chrome plating is a stainless layer of nickel and the second one is a shiny layer of chrome 

silver: silver plating is often used to increase the aesthetic appeal of the thin wall steel pipe . To apply silver plating we need a solution of silver and potassium, an anode which is silver, and the steel part as a cathode. In this case, by applying an electric current, a thin layer of silver is considered on the surface of the part.

Of all the metals above, zinc is the most common one for plating because it’s very practical and cost-effective
